Air Conditioning Season Isn't Far Away: Explore High-Efficiency OptionsNew air conditioning systems available to homeowners today are performance-driven workhorses, yet deliver quieter operation and greater home comfort than models made just a decade ago. If you’re ready to replace your old A/C unit, explore high-efficiency options that will provide a nice return on investment with energy savings and superior engineering for longer system life span.

  • A variable-speed air handler typically operates at well under 100-percent capacity for the duration of the cooling cycle, which saves homeowners substantial energy dollars over the course of a cooling season. Variable-speed air handlers start up slowly and quietly. Speed is increased only as needed, and continuously adjusts to precisely match the thermostat set point. This technology provides more even cooling through the living spaces, and all but eliminates “quick-cycling” of conventional single-speed air handlers. This results in greater efficiency and comfort.
  • A thermal expansion valve enhances the performance of the indoor and outdoor heat exchangers by regulating refrigerant flow based on cooling demand and the temperature outside. While the primary purpose of the thermal expansion valve is to promote exceptional heat exchange, it also reduces wear on the compressor, helping to extend its life span and significantly reduce noise.
  • The automatic-delay fan switch is a nice feature that continues to pull and circulate cool air from the indoor coil for a few minutes longer once the air conditioning system (compressor) has turned off. With this feature, no energy dollars are left on the table.

Professional installation

Hiring a reputable HVAC company with years of experience is imperative for all aspects of purchasing and installing a new air conditioning system. Rather than just installing a system the same size as the one to be replaced, the new system must be sized accurately for best performance. You may find out that a smaller system will have sufficient capacity for your home, allowing you to save energy dollars and reduce initial investment costs.
