Controlling Dust in Your Home and HVAC SystemIs your home plagued by dust everywhere you turn? Controlling dust can be a tricky endeavor, but with a few simple tips, you tackle it with gusto. Here is where we think you should start:

Switch Out Your Air Filter

The air filter used by your home's HVAC system to control dust is a simple, fantastic tool to help decrease the pollutants in your air. These filters need to be switched out every 1-3 months, depending on use, because once they fill up, they stop working.

Consider an Air Purifier

Whether you suffer from respiratory issues or simply like the idea of having cleaner air, an air purifier can go a long way to improving your indoor air quality. Just remember that you'll need to get one for each room that you want to keep clear of contaminants.

Vacuum a Few Times Per Week

Carpets are notorious for collecting dust and bacteria, and not letting it go. Cleaning your carpet with a HEPA (high-efficiency particulate air)-equipped filter every few days is your best bet to reduce the amount of pollutants being spread into the air each time you walk across the carpet.

Replace Your Carpets

Yes, the rumors are true -- flooring like laminate and tile are much easier to clean than carpets. These types of flooring don't have any fibers to capture the dust, and all you need to do is make sure you sweep and mop on a regular basis.

Clean Your Bedding Weekly

If you're anything like the average homeowner, your bed is most likely home to dust mites and such. It only takes a week or so for these things to get out of hand, so make sure you clean your bed on a regular basis. This will be especially beneficial to anyone who suffers asthma or other respiratory issues.
