Easy HVAC Maintenance Tips for SummerTaking care of your HVAC system sure does pay off in lower energy bills, fewer repair bills and cool comfort on a hot summer day. What makes it even better is that most DIY HVAC maintenance tasks are easy.

So, to make your summer more leisurely, carefree and as comfortable as possible, let your HVAC technician do the technical tasks while you use the following quick and easy DIY maintenance tips just once a month.

Filter Change Reminders

Set reminders to help you to check the air filter each month, and you may avoid a lot of HVAC efficiency and repair troubles. That's because dirty and clogged air filters substantially restrict airflow across the blower, which can cause serious harm to the motor and drive up energy usage.

Further, restricted airflow interferes with your comfort by delivering unbalanced air pressure and temperatures from the air-supply vents. Mark the same day each month on your calendar, whether wall, desk, digital and/or online calendar, to remind you to check the air filter.

Air Handler Maintenance

When you check the air filter each month to see if it needs to be changed, check the air handler for water leaks. The cold evaporator coil promotes condensation, which drips into a pan below. If the condensate drain becomes clogged, a common occurence, the water may overflow and cause a wet mess or water damage in your home.

Check the Condenser Unit

The condenser coil is located in the outdoor unit. Its job is to release collected heat energy to outdoor air as part of the cooling process. Like the indoor evaporator and blower, the condenser needs unrestricted airflow. Pull up, cut down or trim back any vegetation near the outdoor unit. There should be at least two feet of unhindered space on all sides.

Try to stay on top of these DIY HVAC maintenance tips, in addition to scheduling professional HVAC maintenance. Your A/C system and pocketbook will thank you.
