Stay Cool

Preventative maintenance that pays for itself.

An air conditioner that only gets attention when it fails is usually the most expensive kind to own. A yearly preventative maintenance visit catches small problems early, keeps the system running the way it was designed to, and helps you avoid the worst day of summer: no cooling when everyone else needs a technician, too.

Hartman Brothers has been caring for Fort Wayne and New Haven homes since 1963. We treat a tune-up like an inspection, not a sales call. We’ll tell you what we find, what it means, and what — if anything — actually needs to be done.

Benefits of preventative AC maintenance
  • Lower energy bills. Dirty coils, low airflow, and weak refrigerant charge force the compressor to work harder. A clean, properly charged system cools the house with less electricity.
  • Fewer mid-summer breakdowns. Most no-cool calls start as something simple: a clogged drain, a failing capacitor, or a coil that never got cleaned. Finding those in the spring is far cheaper than finding them in July.
  • Longer equipment life. Heat and strain wear out compressors and fan motors. Regular service helps your air conditioner reach its full expected lifespan instead of being replaced a few years early.
  • More even, reliable comfort. Maintenance restores airflow and cooling capacity so rooms stay closer to the temperature you set, even on the hottest Indiana afternoons.
  • Better indoor air. Clean coils, a clear drain, and a filter that is actually doing its job mean less dust, odor, and humidity circulating through the house.
  • Clearer repair-or-replace decisions. If something is wearing out, you’ll hear about it before it fails — with options in writing, not a surprise on the hottest day of the year.
What we check on an AC visit

A typical air conditioner maintenance visit includes inspecting and cleaning the outdoor condenser and indoor evaporator coil as needed, checking refrigerant pressures, testing electrical components and capacitors, confirming the condensate drain is clear, measuring temperature drop across the system, and reviewing filter and thermostat operation. We’ll leave you with a straightforward picture of how the system is performing.

AC FAQ

Common questions about AC maintenance

How often should my air conditioner be serviced?

Once a year is the right cadence for most homes. Schedule it in spring, before the first stretch of hot weather, so any issues are handled while parts and appointment times are easier to get.

Is changing the filter enough?

A clean filter is important, but it doesn’t replace a professional visit. Filters don’t clean the outdoor coil, check refrigerant charge, test capacitors, or clear a drain that is starting to clog. Those are the items that usually cause the expensive failures.

What’s the difference between a one-time tune-up and a maintenance plan?

A one-time visit is a single seasonal inspection. A maintenance plan covers regular tune-ups for both heating and cooling, plus discounts on repairs and parts. If you want the system looked after every year without having to remember to call, the plan is the simpler option.

Will maintenance really save me money?

Usually, yes — in two ways. An efficient system uses less electricity all summer, and catching a worn part early is almost always cheaper than an emergency repair or a premature replacement. Think of it as an oil change for a machine that costs several thousand dollars to replace.

Do you service all brands?

Yes. We’ve worked on every major brand installed in this area for more than 50 years. Whether your air conditioner is new or has been in the home for a long time, we can inspect it and tell you exactly where it stands.
