Solve Common Water Pressure ProblemsLow water pressure problems can be extremely annoying. They make everyday activities like showering, filling the washing machine, and washing the dishes infuriatingly slow and challenging. You can always call a pro to fix the problems.

But before going down that road, be sure to take the steps below.

Low Pressure at a Single Faucet

If you're only experiencing low water pressure at a single faucet, a clog in its aerator may be to blame.

  • Take the end of the faucet off.
  • Check if the aerator has any debris. If it does, soak it in a solution of vinegar and water. If the problem persists, purchase a replacement.

If the pressure problem is affecting a sink faucet, you'll need to look at the supply valves below it.

  • Turn the valves counterclockwise until they're entirely open.
  • If they're already open, close them, then take the supply tube off.
  • Check that the rubber inside hasn't been dislodged then assemble the pipe.
  • Turn the water on once more.

Low Pressure at a Shower Head

Mineral and debris buildup on the restrictor inside a shower head can cause low water pressure.

  • Detach the shower head.
  • Carefully pry the restrictor out of the shower head and clean out any debris.
  • Soak the shower head in a solution of vinegar and water.
  • Install the restrictor and reconnect the shower head.

Whole-House Low Pressure

If you're experiencing low water pressure throughout your home, check the shutoff valves next to your water meter. They should be fully open. If any is partially closed, open it to solve your problem.

If you bought a home in a neighborhood with low water pressure problems, consider installing a water pressure booster. It will increase the water pressure to your bathroom and kitchen fixtures.

If your pressure problem persists after all your efforts, seek professional assistance. For more information on low water pressure problems, please contact us at Hartman Brothers Heating & Air Conditioning. We proudly serve the Fort Wayne area.
