A malfunctioning boiler can throw your Fort Wayne home into chaos. Unfortunately, boiler problems tend to occur during the winter following the long periods of inactivity. While you can easily fix some problems yourself, others will need the knowledge and expertise of a professional. Let's take a look at some of the most common boiler problems you should watch out for.
Pilot Light Constantly Going Out
This could be a result of a broken thermocouple, a deposit buildup, or a draught. You should ensure there's no problem with the gas supply before attempting to reignite the light. If you choose to reignite the light on your own, make sure you follow the instructions in your boiler's manual carefully. If your efforts don't bear fruit, contact a qualified engineer.
Leaking or Dripping
Many different issues could make your boiler leak water, including a broken internal component, very high pressure, corrosion, and improper installation. This problem is best left to an engineer.
Boiler Keeps Turning Off
There are many factors that could make your boiler turn off, such as a thermostat malfunction, frozen condensate pipe, faulty pump, air in the system, and low water pressure. You can try bleeding the radiators to remove air from the system. If it's cold outside, you may have to thaw the condensate pipe. If the water pressure is low, contact your supplier.
Strange Noises
A noisy boiler is usually a result of a buildup of air or limescale in the system. You can power flush your pipes or bleed your radiator to remove air and limescale from the system. If the noises persist, be sure to call a professional.
Losing Pressure
Your boiler may keep losing pressure due to a faulty expansion vessel or a water leak. You can re-pressurize it by following your manual's instructions. You can also seek professional help.
