Ways to Keep Guests Cool in Guest RoomsGiving some thought and preparation for guest house comfort before you have summer visitors will ensure that they’ll find your home as comfortable and inviting as you do. People tend to acclimatize to different temperatures and what’s comfortable for you may not be for someone else. Should the guest space be separate, you’ll find innovative and versatile ways to keep it comfortable.

Separate Structure

If you have a separate guest house on your property, consider installing a ductless mini split heat pump. It doesn’t require any ductwork, installs easily and offers exceptional heating and cooling energy efficiency. It will make the space fully functional year-round and doesn’t require any fuel lines for heating. Ductless heat pumps extract heat from the air and work efficiently well below freezing.

Under the Same Roof

Rooms without ductwork. A ductless mini split will work well in a room where it’s impossible or impractical to extend ducts, or your system isn’t large enough to condition any more square footage.

Another option for cooling only is to install a wall or window air conditioner if your homeowner’s association permits them. If not, consider a portable air conditioner that you can vent discretely through the wall or window. You can remove the vent hose and store the entire unit in a closet.

Rooms with ductwork. A zoning system will work well for a guest room, whether it’s occupied or empty. Besides providing total temperature control for that room, you’ll have it throughout your whole house. Zoning divides the home into different areas for cooling and heating. They work especially well for two-story homes.

Each zone has its own thermostat that connects to a central control panel. When the space needs cooling, it will trigger the HVAC system and send only cooled air to that space. Besides assuring comfort in each room of the home, zoning systems cut conditioning costs.
