The Benefits a Zoning System Can Offer Your Fort Wayne HomeAre you looking for a great way to save money on your heating and cooling expenses every month without sacrificing the comfort of your Fort Wayne area home? Zoning system benefits cannot be understated, which is why so many homeowners have been turning to this setup for their comfort needs.

The Problems with Traditional Heating and Cooling

It's time to face an awful truth. If your home's comfort needs are still being controlled by a traditional central heating and cooling setup that relies on one thermostat, you're wasting energy and money every month. The first problem is that whenever you need to condition part of your house, your system has to heat or cool the entire home, unless you manually manipulate vents and registers to close off certain rooms (which isn't advised with most modern HVAC systems). The second problem is that the desired temperature is only going to be reactive in the room where the thermostat is located. Both of these issues produce uneven comfort levels in your home and higher energy costs.

Zoning System Benefits

A zoning system allows you to split your home into two or more separate areas (designated as "zones"), where the temperature in each zone is controlled by a separate thermostat and controllable duct dampers, usually connected to a central control panel. This way, you can heat and cool the separate zones at whatever level you choose, to turn it down when nobody's using an area or to accommodate different people's climate preferences. This type of setup has a number of benefits including:

  • Uses less energy – By focusing your HVAC system's efforts on different areas with different needs, rather than your entire home, you'll use considerably less energy.
  • Maintains comfort throughout home – Many homes have hot and cold areas due to varied conditions (warmer upstairs rooms, warm areas near south- and west-facing windows, cool and damp finished basements, etc.). A zoning system can help prevent this from occurring.
  • Takes multiple levels into account – If you have a two-level home, you already know that the upper floor will be warmer than the lower floor. A zoning system will allow you to even out these temperatures.
