These days, it's more important than ever to lower your energy bills. Unfortunately, there are several energy myths in circulation that can make it difficult to do so. Let's take a look at a few of these myths so that you'll finally know the truth.
Myth #1: Electronics stop using power once turned off.
Our lives are full of electronic devices, from the computer sitting at your desk to the game console connected to your television. Many homeowners are under the impression that once you turn these devices off, they stop using energy. This is not true. The only way to stop the flow of energy completely is to unplug them.
Myth #2: Keeping your thermostat at a static temperature doesn't waste energy.
If you're away from home, leaving your thermostat set at the same temperature is simply a waste of money. You need to make adjustments for when you leave and when you return. Modern thermostats even allow you to make changes remotely.
Myth #3: A dripping faucet is the least of household concerns.
Wrong. Though a small leak that results in the occasional drip might not seem like a big deal, the amount of water being wasted quickly adds up. Not only is this a waste of money, but it's simply a waste in resources. And don't forget that it's a great way to facilitate the growth of mold.
Myth #4: Using your computer's sleep mode is just like turning it off.
We've already covered the fact that you need to unplug your electronic devices if you want to stop them from consuming energy. But, what about the system's Sleep Mode? We hate to break it to you, but even though this is a great way to reduce energy usage, turning it off instead of unplugging will still use more energy than you'd probably like.
