With R-22 Refrigerant Supplies Drying Up, Maybe It's Time to Be Rid of That Old A/CIf you haven't had a quote on an air conditioner recharge lately, you're likely in for a shock. Prices on this service for older A/Cs and heat pumps have more than tripled in the past year because of the reduced R-22 refrigerant supplies available to contractors. The federal government has been phasing our R-22 refrigerant supplies because of their harmful effects on the environment and will have eliminated production of new R-22 by the year 2020. Equipment manufactured since 2010 has used a new refrigerant formula, R-410A, for which supplies are plentiful. This might make now a great time to consider an upgrade to a more efficient and better-performing cooling system.

In the spring before your heat pumps switches over to its cooling function, a yearly maintenance check is a good idea. An HVAC professional will inspect the unit for rust, leaks, corrosion and any wiring that appears frayed or loose. The service technician also will check the heat pump condenser, compressor, fans, indoor and outdoor coils, air filter, airflow and refrigerant lines. He will clean and oil parts that need those services. He also will measure the amount of refrigerant in the heat pump system and add refrigerant if necessary.

When Ice Dams Get In The Way, Expect Significant Repair CostsIce dams prevent your roof from draining properly. Water leaks, mold problems and structural damage can all result, and repair costs can be high. An ice dam occurs when warm air in your attic radiates upward, melting snow on the roof. When the resulting water reaches the bottom of the roof, which is much colder because of less heat in the thin section of underlying attic, it refreezes, resulting in a dam that forces additional melted snow to pool up behind it. That standing water eventually finds its way down into your attic and living spaces.

The Hartman Brothers 10-Year Installation Warranty -- Because We Stand Behind Our WorkThe Hartman Brothers' 10-year Installation Warranty has your back where the manufacturer’s warranty leaves off. Your new HVAC equipment incorporates technology that provides a trouble-free expected service life that lasts longer than models of only a few years ago. Manufacturer warranties are also more comprehensive and longer than ever. However, the manufacturer seldom covers the labor and parts associated with installation of the equipment. And yet, competent installation is critical to receiving the energy efficiency and performance promised by the manufacturer’s specs. The U.S. Department of Energy reports that improper installation can reduce equipment efficiency by as much as 30 percent. That's more than enough to cancel out the gains of upgrading to a new high-efficiency air conditioner or furnace. An HVAC contractor that stands behind his installation procedures for a full decade knows the importance of getting it right from the beginning. Here what’s covered by the Hartman Brothers 10-year Installation Warranty:
